President-elect, John Dramani Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to creating a prosperous and equitable Ghana as he prepares to assume office in January.
In a statement to deliver his Christmas message to Ghanaians, the President-elect expressed gratitude to the people of Ghana for entrusting him with the mandate to lead the nation, pledging to uphold the principles of freedom, justice, and accountability.
“Christmas is a season of hope and renewed inspiration,” Mahama stated, drawing parallels between the values of Jesus Christ and the vision he holds for Ghana.
He underscored and further reiterated his determination to build a prosperous, inclusive, and democratic economic state that offers equal opportunities for all. He added that inclusivity and progress will be the cornerstones of his administration.
“I wish to also reaffirm my determination to build a nation that works for all, a prosperous and democratic state anchored in the principles of freedom, justice, accountability, and equal opportunities for all,” parts of the statement cited by The High Street Journal read.
Mahama’s message comes at a time when Ghanaians are optimistic that his new stint at the presidency will provide the needed solutions to the challenging economic situation and bring some relief. Mr. Mahama has already served notice that he will renegotiate the ongoing IMF bailout for a better that will address the economic hardships of Ghanaians.
He has also committed to a 120-day social contract which includes the promise to scrap some nuisance taxes such as E-levy, Betting Tax, COVID-19 levy, and Emissions levy to bring some respites to the public.
On the corruption front, the president-elect has already set up a preparatory team to gather evidence of alleged corrupt acts from the public to help his agenda to fight corruption through the famous Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) agenda.
