In his New Year’s address, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic progress, pointing to the nation’s significant recovery and its impact on citizens’ lives. He noted that the economy has made impressive strides in Ghana economic growth and stressed that growth is not just about statistics but about improving livelihoods.
Highlighting the 7.2% economic growth recorded in the third quarter of 2024, with an annual growth projection of 6.8%, the President described this achievement as a testament to the nation’s resilience amid global uncertainties. He explained that these figures symbolize more than a rebound, they represent real improvements in the lives of Ghanaians and the sustained Ghana economic growth.
“These achievements are not just numbers or statistics; they are stories of lives changed and futures made brighter,” he stated. He attributed this progress to initiatives such as the Free Senior High School (SHS) Policy, advancements in healthcare, expanded road networks, revitalized agriculture, and Ghana’s digital transformation, all contributing to Ghana economic growth.
Acknowledging the difficulties of recent years, especially during the post-COVID-19 period, President Akufo-Addo commended the strength and determination of Ghanaians in overcoming challenges. This resilience has been a backbone for Ghana economic growth. He observed that the tough times reminded citizens of their collective resilience, saying, “The post-COVID-19 years have tested us to our limit, but they’ve also reminded us of who we are, a people who rise together, no matter the odds.”
Looking ahead to 2025, the President called on Ghanaians to seize new opportunities and build on the progress made. He urged the nation to enter the new year with hope and determination, remarking, “Let us step into the new year with hope in our hearts and determination in our steps.”
Reflecting on his time in office, he expressed gratitude for the privilege of serving as President, calling it the greatest honor of his life. He encouraged Ghanaians to remain united and actively participate in nation-building. “Each of us has a role to play in building the nation we envision,” he emphasized.
As his tenure comes to an end, President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in Ghana’s future, urging citizens, particularly the youth, to continue driving the nation’s development, stating, “Together, there is nothing we cannot achieve.” This forward-looking approach aims to sustain Ghana economic growth.
