Ghana’s Criminal Investigation Department Cybercrime Unit has received new cybersecurity equipment from the Czech Republic to strengthen digital forensics and improve responses to cyber-related crimes.
The handover was conducted by Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Nick Ojo Omorodion and received by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, Mrs Lydia Yaako Donkor, as part of ongoing bilateral cooperation aimed at strengthening cyber capacity development between Ghana and the Czech Republic.
The support package includes specialised hardware and software supplied by Czech technology firm Compelson, designed to enhance digital forensics, improve the efficiency of analysing electronic evidence, and support the preparation of more “court-ready cases” in cybercrime prosecutions.
According to the Czech Embassy, the intervention forms part of broader efforts to respond to the increasing complexity of cyber threats, with emphasis on “strengthening cyber capacity” and improving institutional readiness to address evolving digital crime patterns that frequently cross national borders.

The initiative is being implemented under the CyberVAC programme, a Czech-funded capacity-building framework focused on technical training, knowledge exchange, and operational support for partner institutions. The programme prioritises “practical exchange” and long-term institutional development in cybersecurity enforcement.
Officials noted that cybercrime continues to expand in scope and sophistication, requiring enhanced collaboration between jurisdictions. The Embassy indicated that cyberspace presents enforcement challenges due to its transnational nature, making international partnerships a critical component of effective response mechanisms.
The Ghana Police Service, through its CID Cybercrime Unit, is expected to integrate the new tools into ongoing investigations, particularly in areas involving digital fraud, cyber-enabled financial crimes, and other online offences where forensic capability is increasingly central to prosecution outcomes.
The Embassy further indicated that collaboration in cybersecurity between Czechia and Ghana will continue, with a focus on sustaining institutional capacity and reinforcing operational effectiveness in the fight against cybercrime.
