Newmont Supports Economic Activities With Newly Built Divisional Police Headquarters Valued At GH₵4.1 million

Newmont commissioned a GH₵ 4.1 million divisional police headquarters in Ahafo to enhance security, support economic growth, and manage population influx from the Ahafo North project

Newmont has commissioned a newly built divisional police headquarters at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo region to address security and improve general safety.

In a news statement copied to The High Street Journal in Accra, it said the divisional police headquarters in the Ahafo region valued at GH₵ 4.1 million (approximately US$250k) would equip the capacity of the police service to maintain law and order for smooth economic operations.

It said, Newmont, in 2018, commissioned an influx study to determine the probable human migration into the Ahafo area, following the construction and subsequent operation of the Ahafo North mine, and the potential impact of such migration on local infrastructure and social dynamics.

Following the study, and based on its recommendations, the company designed the Ahafo North influx management plan, to align and meet the needs of the anticipated population increase.

It said the plan included the provision of security infrastructure, as well as health, water, and sanitation facilities.
Mr Abdul Rahman Amoadu, Managing Director for Newmont’s business in Africa, said “Security remains an important enabler for development, and Newmont’s investment in the divisional police headquarters will help to build the capacity of our police service to maintain law and order, as we catalyze economic development through on investments.”
