Ghana is stepping up efforts to host major African and international football tournaments, with the continental governing body pledging support to improve infrastructure and strengthen the country’s bid prospects.
A delegation led by Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Secretary Samson Adamu and Ghana Football Association(GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku met Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams to discuss the Ghana’s ambitions. The talks focused on upgrading football infrastructure, expanding grassroots development and positioning Ghana as a competitive host for future tournaments.
Adams said the government sees football as a key tool for national cohesion and economic opportunity, while acknowledging the need to strengthen the foundations of the sport. “Football is big and contributes significantly to fostering national unity,” he stated.

He added that the government is committed to building stronger structures for grassroots and school sports to tap into Ghana’s talent pool. Adamu expressed confidence in Ghana’s potential to host major competitions and said CAF would support the country’s development efforts. “Trust us any day and time because Ghana is home, and we expect your guidance to succeed,” he said.
He urged authorities to prioritise improvements to pitches and sporting facilities, noting that infrastructure quality remains a decisive factor in awarding hosting rights. CAF has pledged technical assistance to help Ghana upgrade its facilities and prepare a comprehensive strategy for future tournament bids.
The discussions signal closer coordination between government, the Ghana Football Association and CAF, as Ghana seeks to re-establish itself as a destination for major football events while developing the next generation of players.
