The African Energy Chamber (AEC) has partnered with (B)energy, developer of the ccCASH initiative, to launch a continent-wide mechanism aimed at bringing climate finance directly to African households. The initiative seeks to accelerate the adoption of sustainable cooking solutions across Africa.
Africa faces a major energy challenge, with over 200 million households still relying on polluting fuels such as firewood, charcoal, and kerosene. Adoption of clean cookstoves and alternative energy solutions has been limited by weak financial incentives and fragmented investment models.
Under the partnership, ccCASH will function as a clean cooking currency, directly rewarding households for verified climate, health, and social outcomes from technologies including LPG, biogas, ethanol, and electric cooking solutions. The platform uses a technology-neutral digital infrastructure to monitor, report, and verify emissions reductions and social benefits, providing a scalable alternative to traditional project-based carbon certification.
“The challenge in clean cooking is not only technological, but also about income, incentives, and financing,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “ccCASH provides a scalable, African-driven pathway to mobilize climate finance while generating measurable social, economic, and climate benefits.”
Katrin Puetz, CEO of (B)energy, added that partnering with the AEC offers a platform to expand ccCASH across Africa, engaging energy and mining companies, governments, and development partners.
The initiative is expected to support government climate commitments, including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and attract private sector investment in line with ESG principles and high-integrity climate finance standards under Article 6.
In early 2026, the AEC and (B)energy plan to host a high-level webinar to engage corporates, investors, governments, and development partners in pilots, co-investment, and national rollout plans for the ccCASH platform.
The partnership represents a coordinated effort to accelerate clean cooking adoption, strengthen service ecosystems, and deliver inclusive environmental and economic benefits across the continent.
