The Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) Ghana has opened its 2025 Bankers’ Week celebrations with an emphasis on wellness, work life balance and mental resilience as key components for professional excellence in the financial sector.
The opening event, held at the Athletics Oval of the University of Ghana, Legon, brought together banking professionals, students and industry partners for a day of physical activity and health awareness. Participants took part in cancer and mental health sensitization sessions before engaging in various sporting activities including football, basketball, volleyball and board games. The activities were designed to encourage teamwork, relaxation and physical exercise in a profession widely regarded as high-pressure and performance driven.
Chief Executive Officer of CIB Ghana, Robert Dzato, said well-being must be recognized as a strategic priority within banking institutions, rather than an afterthought.
“Banking is a demanding profession and wellness cannot be overlooked. A strong, ethical and innovative financial sector depends on professionals who are mentally and physically healthy,” he said.
Mr. Dzato further noted that improving workplace wellness contributes to better decision making, higher productivity and greater resilience among banking staff, particularly as the sector adjusts to rapid technological change and evolving regulatory requirements.
Observers within the financial services industry have increasingly pointed to the link between well-being and ethical behavior, highlighting that staff who experience lower stress levels are often more attentive, more empathetic in client relations and more aligned with institutional values.
Upcoming Activities for Bankers’ Week
CIB Ghana will continue the 2025 Bankers’ Week with a series of professional development engagements and reflective discussions on the industry’s future. Key activities include:
