Telecel Ghana Music Award (TGMA) has announced two new categories for its 26th edition which will be experienced this year.
The new categories include Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song, Best African Song, and Traditional Artiste of the Year.
The Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song category celebrates the blend of traditional gospel with modern urban influences, highlighting Ghanaian artistes creativity.
According to a statement issued by the organizers, the Traditional Artiste of the Year category which would be solely adjudged by the board would recognize outstanding artiste who have thrived in folklore music.
The Best African Song category is defined as the most popular song of a non-Ghanaian African artiste commercially released in the year of review.
Also, the newly introduced Titan award would be presented to music industry contributors who have made immense contributions to the growth and development of the music industry.
The highly prestigious Artiste of the Year category has also been redefined as “the artiste with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the year under review”
The statement also noted that the artiste must have released a hit single, EP/ Album, and must be one of the artistes with the highest number of nominations in the year under review.
This is to recognize the growing influence of urban gospel music in the country as stated on the TGMA official pages.
The new category aims to celebrate the blend of traditional gospel with modern urban influences, showcasing the innovation and creativity of Ghanaian artists.
Nonetheless, with the countdown to the call for entries yet to begin, industry professionals and fans alike are eagerly anticipating the upcoming awards season.
However, TGMA which was previously Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) has been the number one music event for song makers, producers and artists worldwide. It harnesses the true potential of African artists and music.
