Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, is leading the Ghana’s delegation to the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) in New York, where global leaders are meeting to discuss women’s rights, access to justice and gender equality.
The conference, being held at United Nations Headquarters from March 9 to March 19, is the United Nations’ principal global intergovernmental forum dedicated to promoting gender equality and empowering women.
This year’s meeting is focused on strengthening access to justice for women and girls, including promoting inclusive legal systems, removing discriminatory laws and addressing structural barriers that prevent equal opportunities.
The minister will deliver three official statements on behalf of Ghana during the opening dialogue segment, a ministerial roundtable discussion and a high-level meeting as part of the country’s participation.
The delegation includes officials from several government ministries, members of parliament, representatives from the Office of the President, academics and civil society organizations working on gender equality and social protection. The meetings also provide an opportunity for Ghana to highlight progress made in promoting women’s rights and expanding social protection programs while sharing national experiences with other countries.
Dr. Lartey is also expected to participate in side events and bilateral discussions with international partners during the session. Ghana’s presence at the gathering underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen policies aimed at protecting women and children while promoting equal opportunities in education, employment and leadership.
