MobileMoney Fintech Limited has rewarded the first batch of commercial drivers under its “Ride with MoMo” campaign as part of efforts to accelerate digital payments in Ghana’s transport sector and promote financial inclusion.
The campaign, launched on July 8, 2026, encourages drivers to accept mobile money payments from passengers while rewarding those who consistently use the platform.
Speaking at the award ceremony in Accra, Mr Abdul Razak Issaka Ali, Chief Commercial and Operations Officer of MobileMoney Fintech Limited, said the initiative was aimed at helping transport operators improve business efficiency while supporting the country’s digital payment agenda.
He said drivers who received 20 or more mobile money payments within a week automatically qualified to receive one gigabyte (GB) of data.
Mr Ali disclosed that more than 500 drivers had already benefited from the weekly data reward since the campaign began.
He said the company was rewarding the first top 10 drivers for the week, with another 20 winners expected to be announced over the next two weeks.
“The promotion runs for three months, and every week another 10 drivers will be rewarded,” he said.
Mr Ali added that the campaign also featured monthly prizes, with the best-performing driver receiving GH¢1,000, while an overall grand prize would be presented at the end of the promotion.
He said beyond rewarding drivers, the initiative sought to improve operational efficiency in the transport sector by reducing dependence on cash transactions.
Mr Ali noted that many drivers had complained about spending valuable working time searching for change after receiving cash payments, affecting their productivity and income.
“With mobile money payments, drivers can avoid these delays, improve efficiency and focus on serving more customers,” he said.
He said MobileMoney Fintech remained committed to digitising businesses across various sectors of the economy, describing transport as one of the key industries where digital payments could make a significant impact.
Mr Charles Osei-Owusu, Senior Manager, Fintech Business Development at MobileMoney Fintech Limited, said the campaign would run from July 1 to September 30, 2026.
He said the initiative targeted participants across the transport sector, including online ride-hailing drivers and other commercial transport operators, while giving passengers the option to pay fares using mobile money.
Mr Osei-Owusu said the company rewarded the top 10 drivers with GH¢500 each and one gigabyte of data.
He explained that any driver who completed at least 20 mobile money transactions with a cumulative value of GH¢1,000 or more also qualified for the one gigabyte reward.
He said the rewards demonstrated the company’s commitment to honouring its promise to drivers while encouraging wider adoption of digital payments.
Mr Osei-Owusu appealed to the public to choose mobile money as their preferred payment option whenever they used public or commercial transport.
He said increased use of mobile money would help drivers operate more efficiently, reduce cash handling challenges and improve financial inclusion across the transport industry.
