Okuapehene Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo Ababio III has partnered with Ghana’s National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to provide free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration, renewals, and health screening for residents of the Akuapem Traditional Area.
The exercise, scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, will take place at the Palace Forecourt in Akropong Akuapem. It is organised through the Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo Foundation (OKWAF) as part of efforts to expand healthcare access and improve productivity across the region.
The initiative targets traders, artisans, and smallholder farmers who make up a major part of the local workforce, and indeed, every member of the community, aiming to reduce medical expenses and strengthen community resilience through broader health insurance coverage.

Activities are expected to begin at 8:00 a.m., with residents encouraged to participate in both the health screening and the free NHIS registration and renewal exercise.
The partnership aligns with national efforts to promote universal health coverage and deepen collaboration between traditional leadership and public institutions, recognizing that healthier communities are more productive, incur lower medical costs, and can drive sustainable local economic growth.
This initiative builds on previous efforts by the Okuapehene and OKWAF, including health walks during the Odwira Festival to promote wellness, donations of surgical supplies to local hospitals, and NHIS advocacy campaigns to raise awareness and enrollment.
Together, these programs reflect a sustained commitment to improving community health, reducing medical costs, and enabling residents to fully participate in local trade, farming, and artisanal activities.
