The Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, has called for increased investment and support for local manufacturers to accelerate Ghana’s industrialisation and export growth agenda.
He made the call during a working visit to Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, where he commissioned a new can-making line worth over US$500,000 at the company’s culinary plant in the Tema Industrial Area.
Mr. Debrah, who led a government delegation, toured Nutrifoods’ two major facilities located at Community 20 and the Tema Industrial Area, recognised as among Ghana’s largest snack and culinary food production sites.
Commending Nutrifoods for its sustained commitment to local production, export growth, and employee welfare, the Chief of Staff described the company as “a model for Ghana’s emerging 24-hour economy.”
He explained that his visit was part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader initiative to identify and promote businesses that already embody the 24-hour economy concept, which encourages continuous production and job creation.
“I am particularly impressed that one of Nutrifoods’ plants runs triple shifts, providing constant employment and ensuring production never stops,” he said. “Companies like this show that Ghana can indeed become a manufacturing hub for West Africa.”
Mr. Debrah lauded the company’s contribution to Ghana’s industrial transformation, highlighting its sourcing of raw materials from local suppliers and exports to markets such as Guinea-Bissau and Burkina Faso.
He stressed the need for sustained belief in Ghana’s manufacturing potential, saying: “We need to believe in ourselves that Ghana can export to the entire subregion. This is not just a political slogan, it is a practical reality when you see companies like Nutrifoods at work.”
The Chief of Staff said government is engaging closely with industry leaders to identify challenges and design policies to support industrial expansion and job creation.
He added that the ongoing 24-hour Accelerated Export Drive Bill before Parliament would provide incentives to attract investment into manufacturing and agro-processing.
Mr. Debrah also commended Nutrifoods for upholding high standards of safety, cleanliness, and product quality, urging other local manufacturers to emulate its example.
Mr. Jay Anjaria, Managing Director and Business Head of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, said the upgraded can-making line reinforced the company’s commitment to the government’s “Invest in Ghana” initiative, which aims to boost domestic industrial capacity.
He emphasized the company’s dedication to job creation, skills development, and sustainable production practices that align with its core values of Responsibility, Transparency, and Consumer Trust.
Mr. Anjaria expressed appreciation for the government’s engagement with industry players, noting that such collaboration strengthens confidence in the “Made in Ghana” and 24-hour economy vision.
“We are fully committed to this Made in Ghana 24-hour economy. In many ways, we are already living it,” he said.
