In a major boost to Ghana’s travel and hospitality infrastructure, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has partnered with Ghanaian property developer PLP Properties Ltd. to provide long-term financing for the construction of the Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport.
This modern hospitality edifice will be located near Accra International Airport, and it is a 170-bedroom hotel. It will also mark Hilton’s debut property in Ghana and serve as one of the very first Hampton by Hilton locations in West Africa.
The project arrives at a critical juncture for Ghana’s tourism sector, which contributed an estimated 5.7 percent to national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and supported over 800,000 jobs in 2024.

The IFC believes that by introducing an internationally branded midscale hotel, the development fills a vital gap in a market where international chains have predominantly targeted the upscale segment, making quality accommodation accessible to a broader range of business and leisure travelers.
Beyond expanding hotel infrastructure in the country, the development is projected to generate 990 direct and indirect jobs, including 200 permanent operational positions.
To also maximize local impact, the project will actively source goods and services from Ghanaian businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This will help the country retain the value of the economic activities of the hotel locally.

‘IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is providing a long-term financing to PLP Properties Ltd. to support the development of a Hampton by Hilton. The new 170-room hotel in Accra is expected to provide 990 direct and indirect jobs, including 200 permanent positions, expand the supply of internationally branded midscale accommodation, and create new opportunities for local suppliers,” a joint statement by the IFC and PLP Properties Ltd announced.
The investment directly advances the World Bank Group’s Country Partnership Framework for Ghana by fostering private sector-led job creation and economic diversification. This strategy is designed to strengthen domestic value chains and ensure that a larger share of tourism revenue remains within the national economy
Commenting on the development, the Executive Director of PLP Properties Limited, Jean-Louis Feghali, indicated, “Our vision goes beyond building a hotel. Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport will strengthen Accra’s hospitality offering, create jobs, support local suppliers, and serve business and leisure travelers. We value IFC’s support in helping us deliver the project in line with international sustainability standards.”

Echoing this vision, Nathalie Kouassi Akon, IFC Division Director for West Africa Gulf of Guinea, noted “IFC’s partnership with PLP Properties will expand Accra’s hospitality offering, strengthen demand for local goods and services, and promote broader economic growth across the wider economy.”
IFC’s long-term financing is expected to give the project sufficient time to complete construction and establish
operations.
