A major digital transformation is underway across Ghana’s agricultural landscape following a new partnership between the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Ghanaian AgTech company Complete Farmer.
The collaboration leverages technology, data infrastructure, and innovative financing to overcome long-standing barriers in traditional farming, equipping smallholder farmers with the digital tools needed to build commercial, high-yielding agribusinesses.
A Connected Digital Ecosystem for Smallholder Farmers
At the heart of this transformation is Complete Farmer’s digital platform, which acts as a single connected ecosystem integrating all major players in the agricultural value chain.
A joint statement released after the agreement indicates that by digitizing key farm management and commercial processes, the platform directly delivers critical benefits to smallholders.

The development offers direct integration with financial institutions, as smallholder farmers frequently struggle to secure loans due to a lack of traditional credit histories.
Moreover, Complete Farmer is expected to use data and technology to evaluate farmer capacity, connecting growers directly to financial institutions to unlock digital input financing
Also, the partnership will ensure access to quality inputs and agronomy services. Through the platform and its network of fulfillment centers, farmers gain streamlined access to essential farming inputs and specialized agronomic advisory services to improve crop yields and farm productivity
The platform, in addition, bridges the gap between production and market demand by linking what farmers grow directly to end buyers, ensuring reliable demand and fair market participation
In whole, farmers will be connected into a broader network of agricultural service providers, streamlining operations across the entire cultivation cycle.

Scaling the Digital Infrastructure: The $3.06 Million Tech Investment
To accelerate the expansion of this digital farming infrastructure, IFC is providing Complete Farmer with a $2.4 million convertible loan alongside $660,000 in advisory and grant support.
The convertible loan will directly scale up the financing of inputs and agronomy services for farmers.
Meanwhile, the dedicated advisory and grant funding will strengthen Complete Farmer’s underlying software systems, operational capacity, and data infrastructure. Currently operating across eight regions in Ghana and active in Togo with eight fulfillment centers, Complete Farmer supports a network of over 72,000 farmers.
Supported by this new investment, the digital platform aims to scale its reach to 240,000 farmers and significantly expand access to digital financial services by 2030.

Strengthening Food Security and National Development
The AgTech initiative aligns with the World Bank Group’s broader agriculture agenda in Ghana and the strategic priorities of AgriConnect.
By blending financial technology, digital market access, and data-driven agronomy, the project aims to mobilize private investment, bolster regional food security, and create sustainable rural jobs across Ghana’s agricultural sector.
