The government has reiterated its commitment to supporting Ghana’s creative industry, announcing targeted investments and infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the sector’s growth and creating jobs.
Speaking during his 2026 State of the Nation Address to Parliament, President John Dramani Mahama highlighted the financial allocations and planned developments for the country’s tourism, culture, and creative economy. “Government allocated GHS 20 million for film and GHS 20 million for the creative sector,” he said, underscoring the state’s recognition of the industry as a key driver of employment and economic development.
The President further outlined plans to improve event infrastructure nationwide. He announced the refurbishment of the Accra International Conference Centre, which will be upgraded to serve as a national events hub, capable of hosting major local and international gatherings. In addition, work is set to commence on a Convention & Creative Events Centre, to be developed in partnership with the private sector. These facilities are intended to provide venues for exhibitions, cultural festivals, and large-scale creative industry events, expanding opportunities for artists, producers, and entrepreneurs.
Mr. Mahama also confirmed that renovation of the State Banquet Hall will begin soon, further enhancing the country’s capacity to host high-profile state and cultural events. These initiatives, he said, reflect the government’s broader strategy to revive the creative sector, support job creation, and strengthen Ghana’s cultural presence on the global stage.
The President’s announcement comes amid a growing focus on harnessing the creative economy as a source of employment, particularly for youth and emerging talent, while promoting tourism and showcasing Ghanaian culture internationally.
