The total value of companies listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) rose to GH¢292.06 billion last week, even as the amount of money traded on the market fell sharply, reflecting continued investor confidence despite slower trading activity.
The GSE’s market capitalisation increased by 1.56% from GH¢287.57 billion in the previous week, adding about GH¢4.49 billion in value between July 20 and July 24, 2026.
However, trading activity slowed considerably. The total value of shares traded during the week declined by 87.02% to GH¢48.12 million, compared with GH¢370.87 million in the preceding week. The number of shares traded also fell by 61.92%, dropping to 11.51 million shares from 30.24 million shares.
Despite the decline in trading, share prices continued to strengthen. The GSE Composite Index, which tracks the overall performance of listed companies, rose 2.63% to 15,330.57 points, while the GSE Financial Stocks Index edged up 0.19% to 8,281.03 points.
The gains suggest that investors remained willing to pay higher prices for selected stocks, even though fewer shares changed hands during the week.
Telecommunications stocks dominated trading activity, with the ICT sector accounting for 63.7% of the total value traded and 39.5% of total trading volume.
Leading the market was MTN Ghana, which recorded GH¢30 million in trades, representing nearly two-thirds of the week’s total market turnover. The telecom giant also led trading by volume, with 4.4 million shares exchanged during the week.
Other actively traded stocks included Kasapreko PLC (KASA), GCB Bank, Enterprise Group, and CAL Bank, reflecting continued investor interest across consumer goods and financial services.
Among the week’s strongest performers, Intravenous Infusions Limited (IIL) gained 57.14%, Hords Limited rose 44.44%, while Clydestone Ghana advanced 12.5%. On the downside, Atlantic Lithium Ghana (ALLGH) fell 17.26%, Zen Petroleum lost 9.09%, and Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) declined 4.83%.
The Ghana Stock Exchange has maintained a strong performance so far this year. As of the end of the week, the GSE Composite Index had returned 74.8% since the start of 2026, while the GSE Financial Stocks Index was up 78.2%, underscoring the resilience of the local equities market despite fluctuations in weekly trading activity.
