Ghana is targeting increased tourism spending and business opportunities during the 2026 festive season, with more than 100 events lined up under the December in GH programme to attract visitors and stimulate activity across the hospitality, entertainment and creative industries.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) have unveiled the official events calendar, featuring cultural festivals, music concerts, food exhibitions, film shows and entertainment activities across the country.

The initiative is expected to attract Ghanaians in the diaspora and international visitors, creating business opportunities for hotels, restaurants, tour operators, transport providers, artisans and other service businesses.

Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said the success of December in GH should be measured not only by visitor numbers and entertainment activities but also by the economic opportunities generated for local communities.

Speaking at the launch of the 2026 events calendar, she urged businesses and professionals, including tour operators, hoteliers, content creators, musicians, fashion designers, artisans and young entrepreneurs, to use the programme to promote Ghana while marketing their products and services.

The calendar features activities across several locations, extending tourism-related spending beyond Accra and creating opportunities for businesses in other parts of the country.

Among the events are Christmas in Wonderland at Zen Gardens from December 1 to 31, the Street Arts and Trade Festival at Swanlake, North Kaneshie, and the Guinea Fowl Bazaar at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale, both on December 2.

The Tema Food Bazaar 2026 will take place at Site 14, Community One, on December 4, alongside the African Food Festival at Bunso Eco Enclave and Rhythms and Traditions at the National Theatre.

The Ghana-Jamaica Homecoming is scheduled for December 4 to 5 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, while the EweZa Musical Concert will take place at Jubilee Park in Ho on December 5.

Other activities include the Regal Film Festival and Awards at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on December 8, the Fufu Party at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on December 12 and KIDDAFEST at the National Theatre on December 17.

The entertainment programme will continue with 360 Laughs and Rhythms at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on December 19, alongside Time with Ananse at the National Theatre.

Major festive events include the BHIM Festival at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on December 24, the Roverman Festival of Plays at the National Theatre from December 24 to January 4, and the Families Conference 2026 on December 25.

A Night of 1033 Laughs and Music is also scheduled for December 26 at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, among other activities.

The 2026 edition forms part of Ghana’s broader Black Star Experience tourism initiative, which seeks to position the country as a leading destination for cultural and heritage tourism.

Beyond attracting visitors, the programme presents an opportunity to increase tourism receipts, support employment and strengthen the contribution of the creative and hospitality industries to the economy.

However, the economic benefits will depend partly on how effectively local businesses participate in the activities and convert increased visitor traffic into sustained sales, jobs and investment opportunities.
