The Government has so far generated more than 86,000 employment opportunities for young people across the country, Mr Mustapha Omar Copson, Bono Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has said.
He explained that a significant number of beneficiaries were engaged through targeted interventions, including various YEA modules, the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), and the Government’s Adwumawura social intervention initiative.
Mr Copson urged unemployed youth to take advantage of the Agency’s skills training programmes, stressing that these modules were designed to equip participants with employable skills and enhance their chances of securing sustainable livelihoods.
Speaking in an interview in Sunyani, he noted that the YEA had made considerable strides in the Bono Region, where approximately 3,120 young people had already benefited from job placement and training opportunities.
He further revealed that the Agency had entered into partnerships with key state institutions, including the Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service.
Under these agreements, about 30 percent of YEA trainees are expected to be absorbed into the respective services after completing their training.
Mr Copson also disclosed that the Agency had secured about 1,000 acres of land at Branam in the Wenchi Municipality to support commercial farming under its agribusiness initiative.
He encouraged young people with an interest in agriculture to register with the Agency to benefit from the programme, describing agribusiness as a viable pathway for job creation and economic growth.
Mr Copson highlighted the vast economic potential of the Bono Region, noting that the YEA was leveraging local opportunities to promote sustainable employment.
He advised the youth to avoid illegal mining activities and instead focus on productive ventures that contribute to national development.
