The Government of Ghana has authorised the release of GH₵76,466,919.20 to support the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, comprising an advance for tournament preparations and the settlement of outstanding qualification bonuses.
According to statement from the Presidency, the Ministry of Finance has confirmed the release of the amount to support the Black Stars. The financial commitment is divided into two key disbursements to ensure the team’s successful participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, currently ongoing in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Ministry released GH₵58,929,500.00, equivalent to US$5 million, as an advance payment “to facilitate preparations and cover the costs associated with the team’s participation in the group stages of the World Cup.”
A further GH₵17,537,419.20, equivalent to US$1,488,000.00, has also been released for the settlement of outstanding bonuses owed to the team. According to the statement, these payments are “in fulfilment of the performance-based agreement established during the qualifying series,” under which the team received 50 per cent of their bonus during the qualifiers, with the remaining 50 per cent contingent on successful qualification for the tournament.
The Presidency added that the Government remains “steadfast in its support for the Black Stars and the development of sports in the country,” stressing that the timely release of funds is expected to provide “the stability and motivation needed for the technical team and players to focus on their core mandate.”
It further called on Ghanaians to continue offering “unwavering support to the Black Stars” as they embark on their World Cup campaign, framing public backing as essential to the team’s performance on the global stage.
