Ghana’s doctors enjoyed an eventful week in the Volta Region during the 66th Annual General Conference of the Ghana Medical Association, which showcased the region’s tourist attractions and provided a refreshing break for attendees.
Dr. Kweku Appiagyei, Chairman of the Volta Division, received high praise for organizing an unforgettable experience. The week-long conference, held for the first time in this extended format, highlighted Volta’s stunning natural beauty, with doctors exploring its many waterfalls, peaks, and beaches, including the famous Amedzofe canopy walkway, Wli Waterfalls, and Mount Afadjato. Some even ventured as far as neighboring Togo.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, played a key role in the event, hosting cocktail nights and dinners, and further promoting the region’s tourism under his “Visit Volta, Experience Ghana” campaign. Dr. Appiagyei noted the economic boost the event brought to the region, with more than 600 participants attending by the start of the week, making this the largest AGC yet.

The focus of this year’s conference was on mental health, and participants had ample opportunities for relaxation and socialization, with cocktail events and exhibitions featuring medical and pharmaceutical companies. Medical professionals also expressed their enthusiasm for returning to explore more of the region’s tourist attractions, including the intriguing “breast mountain.”
In a surprise gesture, Health Minister Dr. Oko Boye announced the acquisition of four plots of land near Ho Airport for the Association and pledged support for building a multi-purpose center. The conference theme, “Fostering Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Professionalism in Ghana’s Health Sector,” was reinforced in various business sessions.

The event left the doctors with lasting memories of their time in Volta, blending professional engagement with moments of relaxation and tourism.
