Acacia Health Insurance Limited has more than doubled its claims payments over the past three years, with annual payouts increasing from GH¢63 million in 2022 to approximately GH¢128 million in 2025, underscoring growing demand for private healthcare financing in Ghana.
The disclosure was made by the Group Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Group, Daniel Larbi-Tieku, during the launch of Acacia Health Insurance’s new retail health insurance product, Eden Care, in Accra.
According to Mr. Larbi-Tieku, the sharp increase in claims payments reflects the company’s commitment to meeting its obligations to policyholders while strengthening its position within Ghana’s private health insurance sector.
“Since joining Enterprise, Acacia has emerged as one of Ghana’s premier health insurance providers, supported by an extensive healthcare network and a strong corporate client base,” he said.
He noted that the company has invested in improving its claims management systems and operational efficiency since becoming part of Enterprise Group in 2021.
The increase in claims payments, he explained, demonstrates both the growing utilisation of healthcare services by policyholders and the insurer’s ability to honour claims promptly.
“Our commitment to our clients and customers is to pay claims when they fall due,” Mr. Larbi-Tieku said.
Industry analysts say rising healthcare costs, increased awareness of health insurance and greater demand for quality healthcare services have contributed to higher claims volumes across the insurance industry.
The growth in claims payments also points to expanding coverage among corporate clients and their dependents, who have traditionally formed the core customer base of private health insurers in Ghana.
Mr. Larbi-Tieku said the company remains focused on delivering customer-centred solutions and ensuring policyholders receive financial protection when faced with medical emergencies.
He noted that the health insurance business fills a critical gap within Enterprise Group’s broader ecosystem of financial services, which includes insurance, pensions, property management and funeral services.
The company joined Enterprise Group in 2021 as part of the group’s strategy to offer a more comprehensive suite of services to customers throughout different stages of life.
While reflecting on Acacia’s growth trajectory, Mr. Larbi-Tieku said the company is now positioning itself to serve a wider segment of the population through the introduction of retail health insurance products.
He observed that private health insurance penetration in Ghana remains relatively low, leaving many households dependent on personal savings, family support and emergency funds to cover medical expenses.
According to him, expanding access to health insurance could help reduce the financial burden associated with unexpected illnesses and medical emergencies.
The launch of Eden Care, he said, forms part of a broader effort to address gaps in healthcare financing while building on the company’s operational gains over the past few years.
He expressed confidence that Acacia Health Insurance would continue to grow its customer base while maintaining its commitment to efficient claims settlement and quality service delivery.
