Uganda Airlines will begin operating flights to Accra on October 27, expanding its presence in West Africa and introducing another competitor on the Ghana–Uganda travel route.
The Ugandan national carrier will operate four flights weekly between Entebbe International Airport and Kotoka International Airport, with a stopover in Lagos, Nigeria. The service will use a Boeing 737-800 aircraft wet-leased from Ethiopian Airlines.
The airline has advertised promotional return fares starting at $550, offering passengers another option alongside existing connections provided by Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines through Nairobi and Addis Ababa.
The new service adds to Uganda Airlines’ existing operations in West Africa, where it already serves Lagos and Abuja. Extending its network to Accra allows the carrier to serve another market while building on its existing regional connections.
The route also forms part of the airline’s broader strategy to strengthen connections between African markets. Uganda Airlines acting chief executive Girma Wake has said the carrier intends to use Entebbe as a connecting hub for passengers travelling between West Africa and destinations in other parts of Africa, Asia and beyond.
For Ghanaian and Ugandan businesses, the additional air link could make business travel between the two countries more accessible. However, the extent to which it translates into increased trade and investment will depend on passenger demand, commercial activity and the use of the new connection by businesses.
