The implementation of the revised Container Administrative Charge (CAC) has been postponed to July 1, 2026, following a directive from the Minister of Transport, the Ghana Shippers’ Authority has announced.
The revised charges were initially set to take effect on May 1, 2026. However, a statement issued by the Authority said the deferment would allow for broader stakeholder consultations and further engagement across the shipping value chain.
According to the statement, the decision is intended to ensure that the eventual fee structure reflects a balanced consideration of the concerns and interests of importers, exporters, shipping lines, and other industry players.
In the interim, the Transport Minister has introduced a regulatory cap on the Container Administrative Charge to prevent excessive pricing while consultations continue.
Under the directive, the CAC will not exceed GH¢ 720 per Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) for both import and export containers, with immediate effect.
The Ghana Shippers’ Authority has therefore urged all stakeholders within the shipping and logistics sector to take note of the new directive and ensure strict compliance.
The Authority emphasised that further updates would be communicated ahead of the new implementation date in July, following the conclusion of consultations.
