Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, is leading a delegation of public and private sector representatives to China as the government steps up efforts to attract foreign investment into manufacturing and export-oriented industries.
The visit, directed by the Mahama administration, includes participation in the China-Ghana Investment Forum, where Ofosu-Adjare is expected to outline opportunities created under a zero-tariff trade arrangement between the two countries, alongside Ghana’s economic recovery and industrialisation agenda.
The minister is also expected to promote Ghana’s access to regional markets under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTFA), positioning the country as a gateway for companies seeking broader access to African consumers.
The trip is purposed to secure foreign direct investment as government seeks to expand local manufacturing capacity, diversify exports and create jobs through industrial growth.
During the visit, the delegation is scheduled to tour manufacturing facilities across sectors including recycling, plastics, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, as officials study production systems and explore potential industrial partnerships.
John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, is accompanying the delegation along with other senior government officials and private sector representatives.
Ghana has increasingly sought closer trade and industrial ties with China as competition intensifies among African economies for manufacturing investment and supply chain partnerships. Officials have also identified agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, automotive assembly and light manufacturing as priority sectors under the government’s industrial transformation strategy.
