For 52 exceptional students drawn from every corner of Ghana, this year’s President’s Independence Day Awards were more than a ceremonial honour. They were a national affirmation that academic excellence, perseverance and discipline remain central to Ghana’s future.
The awards, which recognise outstanding performance in Ghana’s Basic Education Certificate Examination, are the result of an enduring collaboration spanning more than three decades between Nestlé Ghana Limited, the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service and the Presidency of Ghana.

A Partnership That Has Become a National Institution
What began over 30 years ago as a sponsorship has evolved into one of Ghana’s most consistent and trusted national education platforms. Today, the President’s Independence Day Awards stand as an institution that celebrates merit, inclusion and the promise of young talent across generations.
Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Abass Apaak, described the longevity of the partnership as its greatest strength.
Consistency in partnership is what transforms initiatives into institutions, he said, commending Nestlé Ghana for sustaining its commitment to education over three decades.

Recognising Excellence Without Exclusion
This year’s awards honoured 52 outstanding students selected from both public and private schools across Ghana’s 16 regions, including learners with visual and hearing impairments. The inclusive nature of the programme reflects a deliberate effort to ensure that academic excellence is recognised wherever it exists.
Vice President of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, praised Nestlé Ghana for its steadfast belief in the potential of Ghanaian children.
“Let us commend Nestlé Ghana Limited for faithfully serving as a lead sponsor of the President’s Independence Day Awards for over three decades. Your partnership shows a strong belief in the potential of Ghanaian children,” she said.
She also acknowledged the educators, parents, school leaders and communities whose tireless efforts sustain the programme year after year, stressing that nation building remains a shared responsibility.
More Than Recognition, Tools for the Future
Beyond national recognition, the support extended to awardees was practical and forward looking. Each of the 52 students received a laptop, plaques, sashes, medals and a one year supply of Nestlé products.
This marks the third consecutive year that laptops have been awarded since the programme fully transitioned into a corporate supported initiative, replacing earlier cash awards and tablets in response to the changing needs of modern education.
Education, Purpose and the National Theme
Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana, Salomé Azevedo, said the company’s enduring partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service and the Presidency is rooted in a shared belief that education is central to Ghana’s long term development.

She noted that the 2026 awards draw added meaning from the national Independence theme, Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope, which she said strongly aligns with the spirit of the President’s Independence Awards.
By celebrating the academic achievements of these remarkable students, we are not only rewarding hard work and dedication but also investing in the prosperity of Ghana, she said. Their success serves as a beacon of hope that inspires others to aim higher and reminds us all that with determination, opportunity and support, the sky will be the limit.
Ms Azevedo further highlighted the inclusive nature of the partnership, noting that this year’s awards recognise outstanding students from both public and private schools, including students with visual and hearing impairments.
“At Nestlé, we believe that our growth is closely linked to the wellbeing of the communities we serve. We are committed to enhancing the quality of life for everyone, and today, we are proud to celebrate 52 exceptional students whose achievements reflect resilience and excellence,” she said.

Investing in Ghana’s Tomorrow
After three decades, the President’s Independence Day Awards have become more than an annual ceremony. They stand as evidence of what sustained public private collaboration can achieve when driven by purpose, trust and consistency.
For the students honoured this year, the awards represent more than recognition. They are a national statement that hard work is valued, opportunity should be inclusive, and Ghana remains committed to investing in the promise of its young people.
