The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations under the leadership of Samuel Nartey George has ordered Ghana Digital Centres Limited to immediately reverse a decision suspending the employment contracts of all staff, escalating tensions over the management response to flood damage at the state-backed technology hub.
In a statement dated July 1, the ministry said it had taken “a very strong view” of a circular issued by Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL), which announced the temporary suspension of staff contracts pending a “comprehensive assessment.”

“The Ministry takes a very strong view of the directive and IMMEDIATELY instructs Management to reverse that decision,” the statement said. “All GDCL staff are to disregard the directive.”
The intervention comes after heavy flooding in parts of Accra on June 29 disrupted businesses and damaged infrastructure, including facilities operated by the digital innovation hub. The ministry said many staff members had been personally affected by the floods.
“At a time when staff have been personally affected by the June 29th floods, the Ministry stands with its staff and the staff of all our Agencies,” it said.
The ministry added that management of the centre had been summoned for a meeting on July 2 following a visit by Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George to inspect damage at the facility and surrounding businesses.

Accra regularly experiences severe flooding during the rainy season, disrupting transportation, businesses and public services.
Ghana Digital Centres Limited operates one of the country’s main technology and startup hubs, hosting digital firms, innovation programs and business support services aimed at expanding Ghana’s digital economy.
