The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has dismissed a widely circulating claim that it will pay an average bonus of GH₵1,200 ($84) to pensioners in August.
In a statement issued July 22, 2025, SSNIT said it had identified a post on TikTok, published under the handle GHNN News, alleging that the Trust would distribute the payout to pensioners next month. The agency described the claim as “false and misleading.”
“Members of the public, especially our cherished pensioners, are advised to disregard this information,” SSNIT said in the notice, adding that it is working to have the misleading post taken down by platform administrators.
Ghana’s pension scheme, which provides retirement and social security benefits to workers, is funded by mandatory contributions from employees and employers. SSNIT urged the public to verify information about pension payments and benefits from official sources to avoid falling victim to misinformation.
Management said it is taking steps to report the false claim and reminded the public to cross-check pension-related announcements through its official channels.
