Nana Kwame Agyenim Boateng, newly elected President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), has pledged to strengthen business advocacy, expand market access and improve opportunities for enterprises.
He said his presidency would focus on building a more influential Chamber that responded to members’ needs, connected businesses to regional and international markets and translated advocacy into tangible results.
In his inaugural address at 50th Annual General Meeting of the Chamber, Mr Boateng said the Chamber’s 50-year history provided a strong foundation for a new era of business development and economic transformation.
The AGM was on the theme: “From Stability to Growth: Promoting a Resilient and Future-Ready rivate Sector.”
He said the golden anniversary should serve as a launchpad for the next phase of growth rather than merely a celebration of past achievements.
Mr Boateng said changing markets, technological advancement and intensifying global competition required businesses to adapt and the Chamber to respond to emerging challenges.
He said the GNCCI would strengthen engagement with government and policymakers to promote predictable and fair policies that supported investment, productivity and sustainable growth.
“The Chamber will also deepen partnerships with financial institutions, development partners, international chambers and private sector organisations to improve access to finance, facilitate trade and attract investment,” he added
Mr Boateng said the GNCCI would embrace digital transformation, innovation and the responsible use of emerging technologies to help members compete in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
He said the Chamber would assess its performance by the opportunities created, challenges resolved, partnerships built and businesses supported rather than the number of meetings held or statements issued.
He called on members to participate actively in the Chamber’s activities by contributing ideas, raising concerns and sharing their experience to strengthen collective action.
Mr Boateng said the Chamber would work towards transparent governance, accountability, inclusive leadership and integrity, while encouraging collaboration among businesses where their interests aligned.
He said the private sector had a critical role in Ghana’s economic transformation, as expanding businesses created jobs, supported families and generated opportunities for other entrepreneurs.
He urged Ghanaian businesses to take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), develop competitive products and services, explore markets beyond the country and help position Ghana as a destination for trade and investment.
Mr Boateng pledged to lead with humility, fairness and determination, saying he would consult members, listen to their concerns and pursue priorities with discipline while remaining open to constructive criticism.
He said the next 50 years should see a stronger Chamber, greater value for members, expanded business opportunities and a more active private sector contributing to a prosperous and inclusive Ghana.
