Ghanaian artist, Sharon Dede Padi has been sharing thoughts on how artists price their works, as she gave insights on her journey in painting and the factors influencing her art pricing.
From March 15-22, 2024, Padi attempted a Guinness World Record for the longest individual painting marathon, aiming to surpass the existing record of 100 hours by painting for 168 hours. While the official results are pending, her attempt has already positively impacted her artistic journey.
In an interview with The High Street Journal, Padi shared insights on art pricing. She believes that setting prices is a personal decision for the artist. “Nobody can price an artwork unless the artist him or herself,” Padi said. Her artworks range from 400 Ghana cedis for simpler abstracts to over 20,000 Ghana cedis for more detailed pieces. She noted that the price of an artwork is influenced not just by its size but also by the creativity and effort involved.
Padi’s journey highlights her entrepreneurial spirit, balancing artistic creation with business acumen. Her attempt at the Guinness World Record is a strategic move to enhance her visibility and market value. Despite her success, Padi faces challenges such as high costs and heavy taxes on imported art materials.

Padi has gained recognition both locally and internationally. She recently showcased her work in London and is looking to expand into France, Germany, and the US. Padi’s passion for art began in her youth and continued alongside her architectural career, culminating in a master’s degree in construction and project management from London Southbank University.
Her artworks are available through Padiki Art Gallery and on social media: Facebook: Padiki Art Gallery, TikTok: padikiartgallery, Instagram: Padiki Art Gallery, and YouTube: PADIKI ART GALLERY.
