The resumption of Parliament, expected to pave the way for the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy and the tabling of key legislative instruments, has been postponed indefinitely, raising concerns over delays in the government’s policy calendar.
The Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, which was scheduled to begin on October 14, has been deferred until further notice, according to a notice issued by Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on October 6, 2025.
The Speaker, in the official communication from his office, attributed the deferment to “circumstances beyond my control,” adding that a new date would be announced in due course.

“Pursuant to the notice to summon Parliament dated September 29, 2025, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the commencement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic is deferred until further notice due to circumstances beyond my control,” the Speaker stated.
The postponement comes at a critical time, with the House expected to consider major items including the 2026 national budget, the review of fiscal policies, and an amendment to the Minerals and Mining Act through Legislative Instrument (LI) 2505, which was originally slated for tabling on October 14.
The proposed LI seeks to revoke LI 2462 and introduce stronger environmental protections by prohibiting mining in forest reserves and streamlining mining regulations. Its delay now adds to uncertainty over the legislative timeline for key reforms.
The indefinite postponement effectively halts discussions on pressing economic measures, sectoral bills, and oversight responsibilities that were expected to define the final quarter of the parliamentary year. No new date has yet been communicated for the reopening of Parliament.
