Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited has presented a cheque of GH¢6.864 million to the Ayanfuri community, in line with its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reinforcing a community development model that is increasingly being cited as an example of how mining companies can deliver tangible benefits to their host communities.
The contribution comes as mining communities across Ghana continue to advocate greater local participation in the country’s mineral wealth through sustained investments in infrastructure, livelihoods and social services.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister’s Technical Advisor, Prof. J. S. Y. Kuma, commended Perseus Mining for honouring its commitment to the people of Ayanfuri.
He described the donation as evidence that corporate social investment is “a genuine commitment to improving lives” rather than “just a slogan,” adding that the payment reaffirmed “trust, partnership and shared responsibility” in advancing sustainable development within host communities.
Presenting the cheque, Board Chairman of Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited, Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, said the company was fulfilling its obligations under the MoU signed with the Ayanfuri community.
He thanked the chiefs and residents for their cooperation, which enabled mining operations to resume at the Fetish and Esuojah North pits three months ago. He assured them of Perseus’ continued commitment to “supporting the community’s development.”
The Board Chairman also disclosed that the company had paid US$1.4 million to the Government of Ghana for the reclamation of about 70 hectares of its concession that had been ceded to the state, underscoring its commitment to responsible mine closure and environmental stewardship.
Receiving the cheque, the Chief of Ayanfuri, Nana Kwadwo Appiah III, expressed appreciation for Perseus Mining’s continued support and pledged the community’s commitment to “maintaining the cordial relationship” that has existed between the company and the people of Ayanfuri.
