OmniBSIC Bank’s 11th Health Walk has provided a platform for businesses to showcase products and engage potential customers, as the annual event expands beyond exercise and staff wellness.
Held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, the event brought together bank employees, customers, corporate partners, families and members of the public for a 12-kilometre walk, followed by recreational activities, entertainment and a vendor fair.
The fair featured businesses from different sectors, including electric mobility, insurance, food and beverages, giving exhibitors an opportunity to introduce their products and respond to questions from potential customers.
Electric vehicle company EV Afriq used the event to introduce participants to electric mobility and discuss the cost of operating electric vehicles in Ghana.
Nicholas Kotei, a member of the company’s sales team, said the event provided access to a broad audience and an opportunity to explain the potential cost advantages of electric vehicles over conventional alternatives.
Corporate participants included Sunu Assurance, Blue Skies, Star Assurance, X Mineral Water, Kasapreko Company Limited and Papaye Fast Foods.
However, the organisers and exhibitors did not disclose figures on sales generated, customer leads secured or other commercial outcomes from the event.
Beyond staff wellness
The Health Walk began as an initiative to encourage physical activity among bank employees but has since opened participation to customers and the general public.
Akyaa Afreh Arhin Addo-Kufuor, Chairperson of the Health Walk Committee, said the event had become a regular fixture on Accra’s social calendar, with organisers varying the route across editions to engage communities in different parts of the city.
This year’s programme featured a one-way, 12-kilometre route, followed by games, interactive booths and product displays at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Justin Carl Arhin, Head of Corporate Communications at OmniBSIC Bank, said the initiative was intended to create opportunities for wellness, networking and engagement with customers beyond conventional banking services.
He said the bank planned to expand exhibitor participation and introduce more activities in subsequent editions.
For participating businesses, the event offers an opportunity to demonstrate products and interact directly with consumers. Whether that exposure translates into sustained sales and customer relationships, however, will depend on the results businesses achieve beyond the event.
Florence Amihere, a customer of the bank, said she attended with her family to exercise, spend time together and explore products displayed by vendors.
OmniBSIC Bank was formed through the merger of the former OmniBank and Sahel Sahara Bank following Ghana’s 2017 banking sector reforms. It operates 41 business locations nationwide and serves corporate clients, small and medium-sized enterprises and individual customers.
