The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested the leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mr. Kofi Akpaloo, in Kumasi.
The operation, which reportedly took place at dawn, was executed by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) from its Accra headquarters in collaboration with the agency’s Ashanti Regional Office.
According to myjoyonline.com, the arrest was carried out peacefully without any resistance.
While the specific reasons for Mr. Akpaloo’s arrest remain undisclosed, he is said to have been transported to Accra, where he is expected to assist investigators with ongoing inquiries.
EOCO is yet to issue an official statement clarifying the details surrounding the development.
Some reports suggest that the arrest could be linked to a contract worth $1,919,750.82 issued to him and his wife in 2018 to supply distribution materials to the Electricity Company of Ghana.
