MTN Group has officially concluded its investigation into CEO Ralph Mupita, clearing him of allegations of favoritism towards a senior female executive. The Johannesburg-based telecommunications giant issued a statement to shareholders confirming that its board had “expressed full support” for Mupita and the company’s strategic direction.
The investigation was initiated after an anonymous complaint accused Mupita of giving preferential treatment to Yolanda Cuba, a former Vodafone Ghana CEO, who now holds a senior executive role at MTN. The complaint alleged that Mupita’s relationship with Cuba had caused friction within the company, with media reports suggesting that several executives had even threatened to resign over the alleged misconduct.
However, after engaging an independent law firm to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the claims, MTN’s board concluded that there was no evidence of improper conduct. The investigation revealed no basis for the allegations, with MTN stating that “attempts to engage with the complainant were unsuccessful, and the independent report revealed no foundation for the claims.”

With the investigation now closed, MTN’s board has fully resolved the issue, reaffirming their confidence in Mupita’s leadership. Earlier in the week, Mupita had addressed the situation internally, assuring employees that the company’s governance processes would handle the allegations properly.
The board’s findings not only clear Mupita but also strengthen his position as CEO, with the majority of the company’s top executives offering their support. This outcome allows Mupita to continue focusing on driving MTN’s operations and long-term strategic goals without distraction.
