MTN Ghana has launched MTN Y’ello Protect 419, a dedicated shortcode aimed at enabling customers to swiftly report fraud and suspicious activities across its network.
The initiative designates “419” as the official shortcode for reporting fraud-related incidents on all MTN services, including voice and data connectivity, Mobile Money (MoMo) and other digital solutions.
Customers can dial 419 to alert the company to suspected scams for prompt investigation and action.
According to MTN Ghana, the new measure forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen customer protection, tighten security systems and deepen public confidence in digital and financial services.
Speaking at the launch, Jemima Kotei Walsh, Chief Customer Relations Officer of MTN Ghana, said the introduction of the shortcode underscores the company’s commitment to combating fraud and safeguarding its users.
She explained that by providing a simple and easy-to-remember number, the company is empowering customers to take proactive steps when they encounter suspicious calls, messages or transactions.
“The introduction of MTN Y’ello Protect 419 demonstrates our commitment to protecting our customers from fraud. By providing a simple and memorable shortcode, we are empowering consumers to take proactive steps in reporting fraud or anything that looks suspicious. We want to strengthen public trust, enhance customer protection and support our efforts to create a safer digital ecosystem for all,” she said.
She urged customers and the general public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity by dialling 419.
Fraud remains a major concern within the telecommunications and digital financial services sectors, particularly as mobile money usage and online transactions continue to grow.
MTN Ghana said the new reporting channel is designed to encourage heightened vigilance among customers while enabling the company to respond to cases more quickly and effectively.
The Y’ello Protect 419 initiative builds on several anti-fraud interventions already introduced by the company as part of efforts to secure its mobile and MoMo platforms.
In a related development, MTN Ghana is also positioning itself for stronger growth and innovation in 2026, with a renewed focus on customer experience and digital inclusion.
Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett outlined plans to deepen engagement with customers and expand access to digital services nationwide.
“It’s satisfying to accomplish a goal, yet the real work lies in setting the next one,” Mr Blewett said.
“For 2026, our primary focus is enhancing the customer experience, understanding customer needs and responding meaningfully. We are listening closely to customer feedback and taking steps to address customer needs.”
He added that broadening digital access and reinforcing Ghana’s digital ecosystem would remain central to the company’s long-term strategy.
“The digital world is evolving rapidly, and we want to ensure that more Ghanaians have access to it,” he noted.
With the launch of Y’ello Protect 419, MTN Ghana says it is reinforcing its commitment to customer safety while driving innovation and expanding digital connectivity across the country.
