Things may not end well if representatives of Future Gold Resources (FGR) decide to flout the Land’s Ministry’s termination of the lease and attempt to access the Bogoso-Prestea Mine.
Following the termination of the mining lease of FGR after advice from the Attorney-General and the Minerals Commission, the Ghana Mine Workers Union has declared what they describe as a conditional onslaught on representatives and assigns of the former leaseholder.
After the lease termination news was made public, FGR through their operator, Blue Gold rejected the termination justifying that no official communication had been relayed to them.
Blue Gold insisted that their lease continues to remain valid hence rebuffing the termination by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
But relying on the termination, the Mine Workers who have been on several industrial actions to push out FGR have warned all representatives of the former lease holders to stay away from the mine.
In an interview with The High Street Journal, Union Chairman, Abdul Moomin Gbana warned that FGR and Blue Gold should not dare them. He says it will be in their interest to stay away from the Bogoso Prestea Mine adding that they won’t forgive them should they dare them.
“We have also declared a conditional onslaught on FGR and for that matter their so-called shareholders. The mine workers have declared a conditional onslaught. Relying on the directives of the Minister and by extension having withdrawn or terminated the mining lease that mine is up for grabs. We have suffered for far too long. We do not want to repeat what we have gone through in the past 10 months and over. If they dare us, we will not forgive them,” the union chairman indicated.
He added, “Nobody comes near to Bogoso Prestea Mine and that is what we are determined to do. We have the full support of our men. We will never allow anybody associated [with FGR] whether today, tomorrow, or in the future. Let them not dare us.”
The union says following the termination of the lease of FGR, the mine is up for grabs and hence they are going to support the government to find a credible investor with the prerequisite capacity to take over the mine.
“The government is looking for a credible investor with the capacity to run the mine and therefore future global resources and their assigns or representatives should not dare, should not dare or put any impediments in our way,” he stated.
