Israel is exploring the establishment of a manufacturing facility in Ghana, an initiative that could support local production, create jobs, expand technology and industrial cooperation, and deepen bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.
The proposed facility was disclosed by Israel’s Ambassador to Ghana, Roey Gilad, during a courtesy visit to the Minister for Defence, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei.
The initiative forms part of Israel’s broader interest in deepening bilateral defence cooperation, with potential implications for Ghana’s manufacturing base and technical capacity in the defence sector.
Ambassador Gilad said the facility could create employment opportunities while strengthening local capabilities and expanding collaboration between Ghana and Israel.
The discussions also focused on opportunities to strengthen Ghana’s defence architecture through technology transfer, technical cooperation and institutional capacity-building.
Defence Minister Kenneth Gilbert Adjei identified surveillance systems, cyber defence and advanced technologies as areas where stronger cooperation could support the modernisation of Ghana’s security capabilities.
He also pointed to joint ventures, technical innovation and collaborative research as potential avenues for developing local expertise while supporting national development.
Beyond the proposed manufacturing investment, the meeting reaffirmed the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Ghana and Israel and explored areas for expanded cooperation in response to emerging security challenges.
Ambassador Gilad commended Ghana for its contribution to international peacekeeping, particularly the role of Ghanaian personnel serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
With the UNIFIL mandate scheduled to conclude this year, the Ambassador expressed appreciation for Ghana’s contribution and sacrifices in southern Lebanon, describing the country’s role as valued by Israel and the wider international community.
The two sides also discussed knowledge sharing and personnel training as part of efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and address evolving security threats.
Minister Adjei reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to constructive engagement with Israel, with both sides expressing interest in expanding cooperation in areas that serve their mutual interests and support national development.
