Millions of MTN Mobile Money users can now move beyond simply storing money in their wallets to earning investment returns, following the launch of IC Wealth on the MTN MoMo App.
The new service, introduced through a partnership between IC Asset Managers (Ghana) Ltd and MobileMoney Fintech Ltd, allows customers to invest directly in the IC Liquidity Fund without leaving the MoMo platform.
The development represents another step in the evolution of mobile money in Ghana, shifting the platform from payments and transfers into regulated digital wealth management.
Investing from as Little as GH¢1
The service enables MoMo users to invest from as little as GH¢1, monitor their investments, top up their balances and redeem funds directly through the app.
Customers can access the service by selecting Financial Services, then Investing, and IC Wealth within the MTN MoMo App.
Because the platform uses customers’ existing MoMo information, users do not need to visit a branch, complete additional paperwork or even own a bank account before investing.
For many Ghanaians, that removes some of the traditional barriers that have kept investment products out of reach.
From Payments to Wealth Creation
Speaking at the launch in Accra, Chief Executive Officer of IC Asset Managers (Ghana) Ltd, Isaac Adomako Boamah, said the objective was to make investing part of people’s everyday financial lives rather than a specialised activity reserved for a few.
He said millions of Ghanaians already trust and use the MoMo App daily, making it the ideal platform to extend regulated investment opportunities to a much wider audience.
Mr. Boamah noted that IC Asset Managers has managed investments for businesses, pension funds and institutional clients for 25 years, and the partnership now allows ordinary Ghanaians to access the same investment expertise.
He added that users no longer have to choose between keeping money accessible and allowing it to grow, saying the platform offers both convenience and investment opportunities.
A New Chapter for Mobile Money
Head of Legal and Reputation Management at MobileMoney Fintech Ltd, Paapa Osei, described the partnership as a natural progression in Ghana’s digital financial services journey.
He said mobile money had already transformed how Ghanaians send and receive money, pay bills and support businesses, and the next phase is helping customers build wealth through regulated investment products.
According to him, many people save consistently but leave their funds idle because investing is often perceived as complicated or only suitable for wealthy individuals.
He recalled the successful collaboration between MTN and IC Securities during MTN Ghana’s 2018 Initial Public Offering, which enabled customers to purchase shares through their mobile phones, describing IC Wealth as the next milestone in expanding access to investment opportunities.
Backed by Regulation
The investment product available through the platform, the IC Liquidity Fund, is a licensed collective investment scheme regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Client assets are held by Standard Chartered Bank as the licensed custodian, while the platform operates under SEC requirements covering disclosure, cybersecurity, data protection and digital investment supervision.
Representing the SEC Director-General, Head of Investment Management Anthony Degbato described the initiative as an important step towards widening participation in Ghana’s capital market.
He also reminded financial technology companies and online investment platforms that, under the SEC Directive issued on June 23, 2026, all operators must obtain the appropriate licences by 31 August 2026.
Mr. Boamah welcomed the directive, saying regulation is essential for building public confidence and urged Ghanaians to verify that any investment platform they use is licensed by the SEC.
The Commission also reminded prospective investors that although the IC Liquidity Fund is designed as a low-risk investment, every investment carries some level of risk, and investors should understand the product before committing their money.
Broadening Financial Inclusion
The partnership reflects the growing convergence between Ghana’s digital payments ecosystem and regulated investment services.
For MTN MoMo’s millions of customers, it offers a new way to convert everyday savings into investments without changing the financial platform they already use, potentially bringing regulated wealth creation within reach of a much larger segment of Ghana’s population.
