Ho Technical University (HTU) has inaugurated the Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C), a key initiative in Ghana’s transition to renewable energy. The launch follows other major projects, including the FAB LAB and the UNIDO-Ghana Circular Economy Centre.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr. Collins Adomako Mensah, described the Centre as transformative for Ghana’s solar energy sector, emphasizing its potential to boost solar innovation, expertise, and infrastructure. He noted that STAR-C would foster quality assurance and certification for solar professionals across the ECOWAS region, helping to address energy poverty, particularly in underserved communities.
The Centre aims to create economic opportunities by driving green manufacturing, technology transfer, and tailored energy solutions, contributing to Ghana’s sustainable economic growth. It will provide services such as capacity building, testing, and standardization, focusing on expanding solar energy adoption.
The inauguration was attended by several stakeholders, including the Volta Regional Minister, HTU Vice-Chancellor, and representatives from the International Solar Alliance, underscoring the project’s regional and national significance.
