The government has partnered with Wahu Mobility to create 500 jobs for women, positioning the company as a key driver for women’s advancement in the growing automobile and green technology sectors.
A recent meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and Wahu Mobility’s co-founder, Valerie Labi, alongside CFO Abena Baidoo, highlighted the administration’s commitment to utilizing women-led innovation to drive sustainable economic development.
In a news statement issued by the company, Wahu Mobility noted that the strategic alliance with the government aims to boost women’s participation in Ghana’s electric mobility sector.
President Mahama pledged to create a favorable regulatory environment for green technology, which he said would benefit both Wahu Mobility and women entrepreneurs across the nation.
“This governmental support is essential for unlocking the potential of women in business and fostering a thriving green economy. The collaboration focuses on empowering women to take leadership roles in the automobile and green tech sectors,” the statement said.
The company further emphasized Valerie Labi’s commitment to youth employment, pointing to Wahu Mobility’s creation of over 500 jobs as evidence of the significant impact women can have on job creation and economic growth.
The government’s support extends to Labi’s ambitious vision for a green 24-hour electric vehicle zone in Accra, which is projected to generate over 200,000 jobs, further underlining the potential of this strategic partnership.
The statement also highlighted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader goals, including the Women’s Development Bank and the Big Push for improved road infrastructure, aimed at supporting innovative startups and fostering sustainable development.
The partnership, the statement said, goes beyond social justice, positioning it as a strategic move for economic growth.
“The government’s endorsement of electric 2-wheelers, coupled with its support for Wahu’s operations, signals a clear commitment to fostering women’s leadership in the automobile and green technology industries,” the statement said
Wahu Mobility’s approach, which includes flexible financing, rider safety training, and insurance, was also mentioned as a key element in empowering women to become successful mobility entrepreneurs.
