Google has introduced a global beta version of AI Max for Search Campaigns, a next-generation tool aimed at transforming how businesses connect with customers through Search. The rollout, which includes markets across Africa, marks a major step forward in making online advertising more intelligent, intuitive, and effective.
Designed to help businesses appear in relevant searches, even when potential customers don’t use exact keywords, AI Max applies cutting-edge artificial intelligence models, including Google’s Gemini, to broaden the scope of traditional ad targeting.
For businesses operating in Africa’s rapidly digitizing markets, this tool comes at a crucial time. As digital adoption accelerates and more consumers rely on Search to make everyday decisions, whether it’s locating tailors in Yaba or comparing solar panel prices in Nairobi, visibility becomes a key challenge. AI Max aims to help businesses meet customers where they are, without needing to be search engine experts.
“People are asking more specific questions on Search, and they expect more helpful answers,” said Brian Burdick, Senior Director of Search at Google. “With AI Max, we’re using advanced AI to better understand those questions and help businesses show up at just the right moment, with content that’s more relevant and more likely to help people find what they’re looking for.”
The tool is also designed with small business owners in mind, particularly those in Africa who often manage multiple aspects of their operations on their own.
“We know many African entrepreneurs wear multiple hats. They’re managing stock, serving customers, and handling finances, often all at once,” said Burdick. “AI Max is about making their advertising work harder for them, not adding to their workload.”
This launch adds to Google’s growing portfolio of initiatives focused on supporting African SMEs.
