MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana and Goal Telecommunications have qualified to advance in Ghana’s selection process for spectrum licences in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz bands, the National Communications Authority said.
The three operators were among four companies that submitted applications before the Aug. 27 deadline, according to a statement issued Wednesday. Infrava Ltd was the only applicant that failed to qualify.
The NCA said it assessed the applications through an eligibility review and technical qualification assessment under the first envelope of the bidding process.
The three qualified companies will now proceed to Stage 3, where their Best Price Offers will be opened and ranked. The authority will separately notify the successful applicants of the date, time and venue for that stage.
The NCA said the Envelope B submission from Infrava will not be opened because the company did not meet the qualification requirements.
The spectrum bands being offered are strategically important for Ghana’s telecommunications industry, with operators seeking additional capacity to support growing demand for mobile data and digital services.
The qualification of MTN Ghana and Telecel Ghana, alongside Goal Telecommunications, sets the stage for the next phase of the process as operators compete for access to additional radio-frequency resources.
According to the NCA, all four applicants have been informed of the outcome, with reasons provided where applicable.
