Ghana will host the national playoffs for the International Pairs Golf Tournament on August 2 at Achimota Golf Club, with the winning pair securing an all-expenses-paid trip to represent the country at the world finals in Sun City, South Africa, from October 6 to 10, 2025. The event is part of a global amateur golf series featuring players from more than 30 countries.
Under the leadership of Mr. Abdul-Aziz Amankwa, head of Legends Sports Management (LSM), the exclusive licensee of the International Pairs golf series in Ghana, the tournament has quickly become a major fixture on the local golf calendar. The Ghana edition is gaining ground as a platform for amateur golfers seeking international exposure. The 2025 playoffs followed five domestic qualifiers held across the country.
But behind the growing momentum, organizers are grappling with persistent funding shortfalls. According to Mr. Amankwa, the financial burden continues to fall on local organizers due to insufficient sponsorship.

“We don’t have enough sponsorship to cover for it,” Amankwa said. “So the people who make up the licensee in Ghana, we have to definitely contribute to try and make sure that at least the tournament is organized in a manner that ensures the integrity of the tournament and also ensures that the quality that we’ve been known to bring to the tournament for the last three years is maintained.”
Despite backing from corporate partners, including title sponsor PwC, along with Reddington Beach Resort, Exp Ghana, Alphabet City, Montgomery Golf Resort, CAGL and Spinal Clinic, he noted the event still relies heavily on personal contributions from organizers to bridge the gap between costs and revenue.
The long-term goal, according to him, is to build a self-sustaining funding model that reduces dependence on ad-hoc support. Greater corporate participation, he added, could also enhance the tournament’s value as a business networking and branding platform within Ghana’s emerging sports economy.
The International Pairs, founded in the UK in 1998, has grown into a global amateur golf franchise with operations in over 30 countries. Beyond sport, it positions itself as a conduit for tourism promotion, hospitality partnerships and commercial engagement, opportunities that Ghanaian organizers hope to leverage with continued investment.
