Ghana has extended a gesture of solidarity to the people of Gaza with the presentation of 40 metric tonnes of cocoa-based products, delivered as humanitarian aid in response to the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave.
President John Dramani Mahama made the presentation on behalf of the Government and People of Ghana at the Presidency in Accra. The donation, consisting of premium Ghanaian chocolate and cocoa products under the Golden Tree brand was received by Mr. Abdulfatah Ahmed Khalil Alasattari, the Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana.
The President described the humanitarian intervention as both practical and symbolic. He said the suffering of civilians in Gaza, particularly women and children, was heartbreaking and a stark reminder of the human cost of ongoing conflicts.
“This donation is symbolic because cocoa represents the resilience and generosity of Ghana’s people, and practical because cocoa is a superfood rich in nutrients that can offer much-needed nourishment and comfort to affected families,” President Mahama said.
He noted that the donation underscores Ghana’s enduring commitment to peace, justice, and human dignity, while reaffirming the country’s support for a negotiated two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
He urged all parties to return to dialogue and diplomacy, calling on Israeli authorities to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza without restrictions.
President Mahama emphasised that cocoa is more than an economic resource, it also supports immunity, cardiovascular health, and mental well-being, offering both nutrition and relief during hardship.
He added that the gesture is part of Ghana’s broader belief in peaceful resolution and the power of renewal after adversity.
Palestinian Ambassador Alasattari expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas, the Government, and the people of Palestine.
He described the situation in Gaza as dire and commended Ghana for consistently standing on the side of justice, human rights, and international law.
“We appreciate this support. All of us know that in Gaza now there is starvation and genocide against my people,” he said.
