China Railway Construction (CRC), a global infrastructure developer, has expressed interest in supporting Ghana’s plans to expand sports infrastructure, including the potential construction of new stadiums and training facilities.

Representatives of the Chinese company made the proposal during a courtesy meeting with Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams, where they presented CRC’s experience in developing stadiums, training centres and recreational parks.

The discussions could open the way for CRC to participate in future sports infrastructure projects in Ghana, although no contracts, project values or financing arrangements were announced. CRC said it is interested in supporting Ghana’s ambition to become a hub for sports excellence, with its representatives highlighting the company’s focus on quality, sustainability and community development.

The company’s portfolio includes major sports facilities and other infrastructure projects, which it said could provide a basis for potential projects in Ghana. The minister welcomed CRC’s interest and said international partnerships would be important to Ghana’s efforts to develop world-class sports facilities.

According to him, improved sports infrastructure could support national development by promoting health, strengthening national unity and increasing national pride.

He also acknowledged China’s broader contribution to infrastructure development across Africa and assured the delegation of the government’s support in facilitating potential collaborations.

Ghana, however, continues to seek development of sports facilities that can support both elite athletes and wider community participation, while potentially positioning sporting infrastructure as an asset for tourism and economic activity. The outstanding issue is a matter of maintenance of these facilities.
