Ghana’s stock market has delivered one of its strongest performances in recent years, with listed companies recording significant gains in 2026 as investors continue to show strong interest in shares, particularly those in the banking and financial services sector.
The Ghana Stock Exchange Composite Index (GSE-CI), which tracks the overall performance of listed companies on the market, increased to 14,937.92 points by the close of trading on July 17, 2026, representing a 70.32% gain since the beginning of the year.
In simple terms, this means that the overall value of shares tracked by the index has increased significantly since January, creating opportunities for investors who bought into the market earlier in the year. However, the performance has not been the same for every company, with some stocks recording much stronger gains than others.
The strong performance continued during the week of July 13 to 17, 2026, as investor activity increased sharply. The total value of shares traded reached GH¢370.67 million, more than four times the GH¢67.14 million recorded in the previous week, representing a 452.09% increase.
The number of shares exchanged also increased, rising 46.55% to 30.24 million shares, compared with 20.63 million shares in the previous week.
Much of this activity came from the financial sector, which has remained the main driver of Ghana’s equity market recovery. Financial stocks accounted for GH¢294.54 million in trading value, representing 79.46% of all transactions during the week.
The strong interest in banking stocks helped push the GSE Financial Stock Index to 8,265.36 points, representing a 77.86% gain year-to-date, outperforming the broader market.
One of the biggest contributors to the week’s activity was Access Bank Ghana (ACCESS), which recorded GH¢277.89 million in trading value and accounted for 12.08 million shares traded. The bank alone represented a significant share of the market’s total activity during the week.
Beyond the major banking stocks, several companies also recorded notable price increases. Intravenous Infusions Limited (IIL) was the best-performing stock for the week, rising 50% from GH¢0.28 to GH¢0.42, bringing its year-to-date gain to 740%.
Other strong performers included Hords Limited (HORDS), which gained 28.57%, and Clydestone Ghana Limited (CLYD), which increased 14.61% during the week.
However, the rally has not benefited every company equally. Some stocks recorded declines, including Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), which fell 5.05%, and Standard Chartered Bank Ghana (SCB), which declined 1.24% during the week.
The market’s strong performance reflects improving investor confidence in Ghana’s listed companies, particularly financial institutions, following a period of economic challenges that affected businesses and the wider economy.
With the GSE Composite Index already up 70.32% in 2026, the key question for investors is whether companies’ earnings and business performance can continue to support the current momentum.
For now, financial stocks remain at the centre of Ghana’s market rally, driving trading activity and helping push the country’s equities market to new highs.
