Star Oil has surged to the second spot in market sales, surpassing major players like TotalEnergies and Shell. This achievement places Star Oil just behind GOIL, the current market leader.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) Ghana attributes Star Oil’s impressive rise to its commitment to offering high-quality petroleum products at competitive prices.
According to COPEC’s Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah, the quality of fuel is the top priority for Ghanaian consumers, followed by accurate pricing and the right quantity dispensed at the pumps.
“The number one concern as far as the consumer preference is concerned, is always about the right quality. When you move from the right quality parameter, they will now look at the right price, and the third most essential is the right quantity,” Amoah explained.

He further elaborated that “consumers prefer quality fuel to guarantee the longevity of their vehicle performance and engine. If you check even other OMCs whose prices as I speak with you may be lower than Star Oil and GOIL, a lot more Ghanaians would continue to shy away from some of those OMC brands because of the perception that they wouldn’t probably get the right quality and their engines may be at a certain risk.”
The success of Star Oil, an indigenous company, is seen as a positive development for the industry. It not only emphasizes the importance of quality in the market but also sparks healthy competition, which ultimately benefits consumers.
Amoah further advised OMCs to prioritize maintaining high standards of quality to secure their brand reputation and continue thriving in the market.
Currently, Star Oil Petrol is selling at GH₵13.55 per litre, a 10 pesewas reduction from the previous price of GH₵13.65. Diesel has been reduced to GH₵13.85 per litre, down from GH₵14.02.
GOIL, the market leader, has lowered the price of petrol to GH₵14.16 per litre, down from GH₵14.22. Diesel prices at GOIL have also seen a significant drop, now selling at GH₵14.70 per litre, down from GH₵14.90.
