MC Yaa Yeboah, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, has sparked debate with her strong defence of polygamy, arguing that it should be accepted not only as a cultural practice but as an opportunity for business growth.
In a recent discussion on United Showbiz, she advocated for men to have the freedom to marry multiple wives, provided they can afford the responsibilities that come with it.
Yeboah’s comments highlighted the economic aspects of polygamy, where successful men with multiple wives contribute to the financial stability of their households and communities.
According to her, society’s judgment of men with more than one wife is unwarranted, and rather than viewing polygamy solely as a personal choice, it can be seen as an avenue for wealth distribution and economic engagement. “Why do we criticize men who want to marry more than one wife?” Yeboah asked.
“If a man has the means to support his wives, it’s no different than him expanding his businesses. The same way we support entrepreneurs with multiple ventures, we should support men who take on the responsibility of more than one wife.” Yeboah went on to emphasize that society tends to accept polygamy when practised by wealthy men but shames women who marry into such arrangements when the men are of average means.
She believes this double standard reflects deeper societal biases and undervalues the role of second wives in strengthening family economies.
For Yeboah, the key to making polygamy work is transparency and understanding. She noted that first wives who are uncomfortable with their husbands taking additional wives should be free to leave, stating that “life can be simple” if individuals make informed choices.
She also criticized the growing trend of marriage counsellors, suggesting that many are not qualified to offer advice, especially when their own marriages are in disarray. “There are too many marriage counsellors on social media today, giving advice while struggling with their own issues,” she said, calling for people to focus on personal choices rather than following the advice of others.
Her comments shed light on how cultural practices like polygamy could be reframed as both a social and economic issue. As polygamy continues to be a topic of conversation in various societies, MC Yaa Yeboah’s bold stance opens the door to discussions about its potential impact on wealth distribution, household stability, and even business dynamics.
