Kwabena Obeng Darko reminds us of a truth many don’t want to hear: a university degree, by itself, will not put money in your pocket. Too often, graduates finish school waiting for investors, loans, or “big money” to start a business.
But the real path to financial freedom, he says, is much closer to home, it starts with your mindset, your confidence, and your willingness to act.
Here’s his advice:
- Believe in yourself. Don’t be afraid to try out your ideas. Learn from Africa’s history and use it to shape your future.
- Understand money. Know how to earn it, manage it, multiply it, and invest it.
- Be entrepreneurial. Start small with what you have. Look around, understand the needs of your community and create value that truly serves people.
- Keep learning. Books, articles, and life lessons outside the classroom are just as important as your degree.
- Stop waiting for aid. Don’t sit around hoping for investors or donors. Start with the little you have in your hands today.
At the heart of his message is this: Africa’s youth must re-educate themselves beyond the classroom, draw strength from their culture, and turn ideas into action. That is how to build wealth, create jobs, and shape opportunities on the continent.
Kwabena Obeng Darko shared these insights at TEDxUniversityofCapeCoast on the theme “Navigating Business After School,” urging young Africans to rethink education and entrepreneurship.
