The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has called on employers to consider flexible work arrangements following heavy rains that disrupted commuting and business operations across parts of Accra on Monday.
The flooding left several roads impassable, delaying workers, disrupting public transport and slowing business activity as many employees struggled to reach their workplaces on time.
In a statement issued after the rains, the Ministry said employers have a role to play in reducing the impact of severe weather on workers, particularly when flooding affects mobility and family responsibilities.
It said measures such as flexible work schedules and timely communication can help businesses support employees while maintaining operations during weather-related disruptions.
“Where feasible, flexible work arrangements, timely communication and consideration of employees’ family responsibilities can help reduce hardship during such events.”
The recommendation comes as businesses increasingly face operational challenges from extreme weather, including staff absences, delayed deliveries and reduced customer traffic during periods of heavy rainfall.
The Ministry said the call forms part of broader efforts to strengthen social protection and resilience as Ghana responds to the effects of increasingly frequent severe weather events.
